Robot Wars

  Feather Weight Class

ROBOT WARS is a competitive event featuring radio controlled robots in combat. The second annual ROBOT WARS was held on August 19-20, 1995 at Fort Mason Center, in San Francisco, California.

Competing robot entries were grouped by weight into four weight classes: Super-Lightweight 0-20 lbs., Lightweight 21- 40 lbs., Middleweight 41-80 lbs., and Heavyweight 81-160 lbs. Robots competed in two types of matches: Face-Off is one on one and Melee is a group match-up within each weight class. Winners were determined by survival or they were chosen by the audience if the 5 minute time limit ran out. Trophies, merchandise, and a total of $5000 in cash prizes were awarded to winners in each weight class of Face-Off and Melee including winners in the special categories of Best Engineering, Best Design and Strangest.

Over 40 robots competed in that year's event. In addition, there was an experimental competition of Autonomous Robots (internal controls / AI). The event featured a specially designed arena with mechanical traps and hazards, theatrical lighting, large screen video projections, music by Khan and a special exhibit of robot sculptures by Clayton Bailey. Highlights of the event were aired on ABC, CNN, MTV and the Discovery Channel. European coverage included England, France and Germany.
